Which Cable For CCTV POE Security Systems

The Reolink cameras support CAT5, CAT6 and CAT7 ethernet cable, we do recommend using CAT6 cable as this works perfect for long runs up to 100m or 330ft per camera. The cable requires RJ45 connectors, these connectors are normal fitted by a crimping tool.

Should I Use Cat 5 or Cat 6 Ethernet Cable

People who are new to Cat 5/Cat 6 security cameras often wonder which is the correct Ethernet cable for PoE security cameras.

How far can Cat 5 or Cat 6 cable be run? Should I use Cat 6 or Cat 5e cable for my IP security cameras? Any good recommendation for a good Cat 5or Cat 6 cable?

Answer: 100m or 330ft per camera maximum

Answer: We recommend using CAT6 cable

If you require a certain length of cable please contact us as we can make the cable to specific lengths and crip the RJ45 connectors. We can also supply a waterproof housing for the RJ45 connectors if required.

How To Wire The RJ45 Connector?

The RJ45 connector is a modular 8 position, 8 contact (8P8C) for terminating Cat5e patch cable or Cat6 cable. A pinout is a specific arrangement of wires that dictates how the connector is terminated. There are two standards recognized by ANSI, TIA and EIA for wiring Ethernet cables. The first is the T568A wiring standard and the second is T568B. T568B has surpassed T-568A.

Note T568B: Pin 1, 2, 3, 6 are for data transfer while pin 4, 5, 7, 8 are for PoE power supply.
