Sony Unlocking

What is unlocking and why would I want to do it?

An unlocked phone is one that can be used on all networks operating on the frequency the phone is designed for. For example, in the UK there are four main networks, Vodafone, BT Cellnet, Orange and One2One. Vodafone and BT Cellnet operate on GSM900, while Orange and One2One operate on GSM1800. A UK dual band phone can operate on GSM900 and GSM1800, therefore being capable of working on all the networks.

However, as the networks don't want to lose you as a customer, when they supply the phone (on contract or  pay as you go) it can be locked to only accept SIM cards from their network.

If you wish to use a SIM from a different network, the phone needs to be unlocked.

How do I know if my phone  is locked?

There are two ways to check if your phone is unlocked. Firstly, if you have a working SIM from a different network, try putting that into the phone and switching it on. If the phone works and you can make calls on that network, congratulations, your phone is already unlocked. If a message appears, saying "SIM card not accepted" or similar, the phone is probably locked.

How do I unlock my phone?

Unlocking phones requires the use of a PC, an compatible data cable and the appropriate software. Also the procedure on how to unlock the handset which will be illustrated below.
If you wish to purchase a full Kit with software & Cables then

What phones can be unlocked at the moment?

New Sony Z7
Sony Z5 - All versions
Sony CMD5 - All Versions
Sony J5 - All versions
Sony J6 - All versions
Sony J7 - All versions
Sony J70 - All versions

All above applies to contract & non contract handsets

How do I unlock the handset?

If you have purchased the unlocking kit then you should have a compatible cable with external power that should connect to a 9V battery. Also you should have been provided with the unlocking software.
Please try and follow the steps below.

Turn of the handset first

  1. Connect the Sony cable to the handset.
  2. Connect the Sony cable to the PC.
  3. Make sure to connect the battery clip to a 9V battery ( PP3 ) RED = +
  4. Run the software ( Cell.exe )
  5. Press the “Read Phone” button
  6. Then you will be asked to power on the phone ( Turn on the phone )
  7. If successful you should now have numbers in the “SIM” box
  8. Disconnect the cable & battery as this bit is finished with.

The next step is to type the code into the handset. below is the code that is needed to unlock the phone. Before we proceed make sure you have placed the sim card in the handset that you need the handset to work on. Power on the handset and you should get the message “SIM LOCK” or something like.

To unlock the phone, enter into the phones keypad:

1) To unlock the NCK lock: *#7465625*12*
code#
2) To unlock the SIM lock: *#7465625*22*
code#

Were the text “code” is shown above you must replace it with the SIM numbers that is displayed on the software. Please note that you need to type the NCK lock codes in first. If you have done this correct you should get a “OK” and the phone will power off and turn back on again then proceed to the SIM lock codes and you should get “OK”. the phone should now be unlocked. If you do get the codes wrong the phone will come back with a error and you may not be able to do the code again for a few seconds but don’t worry too much about this as it will be OK after a few seconds.
If you do have problems with this then please don’t email us.
