Samsung Unlocking

What is unlocking and why would I want to do it?

An unlocked phone is one that can be used on all networks operating on the frequency the phone is designed for. For example, in the UK there are four main networks, Vodafone, BT Cellnet, Orange and One2One. Vodafone and BT Cellnet operate on GSM900, while Orange and One2One operate on GSM1800. A UK dual band phone can operate on GSM900 and GSM1800, therefore being capable of working on all the networks.

However, as the networks don't want to lose you as a customer, when they supply the phone (on contract or  pay as you go) it can be locked to only accept SIM cards from their network.

If you wish to use a SIM from a different network, the phone needs to be unlocked.

How do I know if my phone  is locked?

There are two ways to check if your phone is unlocked. Firstly, if you have a working SIM from a different network, try putting that into the phone and switching it on. If the phone works and you can make calls on that network, congratulations, your phone is already unlocked. If a message appears, saying "SIM card not accepted" or similar, the phone is probably locked.

How do I unlock the handset?

If you have purchased the unlocking kit then you should have compatible cables with the unlocking software. The cables should come with 1 x COM Port cable & 3 connectors.
Please try and follow the steps below.

Turn of the handset first

  1. Connect the Samsung cable & the right connector to the handset.
  2. Connect the Samsung cable to the PC.
  3. Run the software
  4. Find the handset model you have & select it
  5. Press the “Unlock” button
  6. You maybe be asked to power on the phone ( Turn on the phone )
  7. Once the unlock has completed you maybe asked to type a “Reset Code” This is for resetting the handset only. You don’t need to do this unless you have problems.
  8. Disconnect the cable & remove the battery & replace the battery.
  9. Turn the handset on.

The phone should now be unlocked. Beware that there is so many different models so make sure you check the handset but the software does check the handset to make sure it is the correct but just be careful and try and choose the correct phone model.

Trouble Shooter!

If you do have problems unlocking you may find its the N100 series etc. This unit may need to have power to the data cable. Look at the bottom of the data cable ( COM Port Side ) you will see a power input. This is a DC input and the voltage is stated on the connector. If needed make sure the power is supplied to the cable before unlocking and then just follow the above steps from 1 - 9.

If you do have problems with this then please don’t email us.
